A historic bathing complex still used today during the Timkat (Epiphany) celebrations, one of Ethiopia’s most important religious festivals.

Debre Berhan Selassie Church
Famous for its ceiling decorated with rows of angel faces, this church is one of the most iconic religious sites in Ethiopia.

 

A Brief History
Gondar became the capital of Ethiopia in the 17th century under Emperor Fasilides. It marked a shift from a mobile royal court to a permanent capital, leading to the construction of castles, churches, and public buildings.

The city remained a political and cultural center for over 200 years.
